 'Breaking Out'
A collaboration between AMICI's Bill Robins and Colm Gallagher
| |

'Breaking Out'
Breaking Out is an exploration of barriers to
fulfilment, but.... We all have barriers to
fulfilment what if you have a grievous disability...?
No one understands you...All that is seen is the
chair you sit in... Or worse still you are
ignored...

Bill Robins
Bill joined AMICI in 1992. In 1993 he was the
inspiration behind The Journey for the company.
This production toured to Poland where AMICI
won the Vaslav Nijinsky award.
Other productions
include 'Ruckblick', 'The Of Ark' (with
Random Dance) 'Pieces 2', 'Hilde' and '20/20'.
Bill
is currently living in his own flat and a student of
Choreography at the University of Surrey
(Roehampton). Bill is responsible for development
modification work on the Simpson Board
(a choreographic tool for disabled people) with
Jonathan Thrift and Adam Benjamin.
This is Bill's
first choreography for AMICI. The poem written
by him as inspiration for The Journey has
relevance to this current work:
I am lonely,
My body prison
Door closed
Hear them
Talk over my head
Like vegetable
They afraid
To see me out with mum
Watch them.
